Franchisee Insight: Deb Doran, Hairhouse Warehouse

Hairhouse Warehouse’s franchisees are a diverse range of owners, from husband-wife teams through to single operators all with unique backgrounds but share the commitment, energy and passion to turn their dreams into reality.

Deb Doran, Franchisee of Forest Hill is one of those franchisees, a determined, entrepreneurial member of the Hairhouse Warehouse family. Her experience at Hairhouse Warehouse has not only provided her invaluable skills but ignited a desire to be a successful business owner.  Deb is a mother, with a 9 year old and a baby on the way and is an inspiration to everyone around her because she is an achiever and good role model.

Deb reflects, “I was a qualified Hairdresser for six years, but felt I was not achieving my potential. I grabbed the chance to work at Hairhouse Warehouse. Working for the Hairhouse Warehouse brand opened many opportunities and gave me the confidence to do further study. It became evident then that the hair and beauty industry is well and truly in my blood. It’s exciting industry to be in and could not think of being anywhere else”.

For eight years, Deb worked full time as Hair and Beauty Advisor under the guidance of Emad Nayef, Director of Hairhouse Warehouse, who taught her the most invaluable skills, that still resonates today. Deb says, “I was very fortunate to learn from the best operator in the business. Emad taught me how to operate to the highest standards, have great work ethics, interact with customers and merchandise the store the right way.”

Deb continues to say, “My eight years’ experience and insight into the Hairhouse Warehouse Business Model provided the opportunity to take on the role of Training / Consultant in the business and trained, Certificate IV in Customer Service for 250 staff”. This began the next phase in Hairhouse Warehouse, where Deb began to educate franchisees in improving their skills.

Deb took on the role of Regional Operations Manager as she saw this as a great opportunity to further advance her skills within Hairhouse Warehouse. Deb enjoyed her time by inspiring and making positive changes to the lives of the franchisees. Deb commented, “Providing business coaching, strategies, profit & lose analysis just to mention a few, was very rewarding and satisfying.”

After 18 months as a Regional Operations Manager, an opportunity became available to purchase her own Hairhouse Warehouse store in Forest Hill, after a short deliberation Deb jumped at the chance. Deb said, “It was a natural progression into the next chapter of my life at Hairhouse Warehouse. I have a fantastic team and store manager who I have great confidence in running the store in my absence while I find an even balance between my professional and personal life.”

Deb continued to say, “In three months of owning the Forest Hill store, I have accomplished a 50% increase in growth from the same time last year, which I am extremely ecstatic about. My experience at Hairhouse Warehouse has been a contributing factor, but I am also surrounded by exceptionally talented staff, who shares my vision and goals for the success of the store”.

When asked what she thought of owning a Hairhouse Warehouse franchise, she said; “I don’t know what I was waiting for. The brand has such a great support system in place that any new franchisee can be successful using the brands systems, whether they are a hair stylist or not.”

“My greatest achievement with Hairhouse Warehouse is buying the Forest Hill store. Following the Hairhouse Warehouse procedures, maximizing the training and help that the Support Centre provides ensures I am never alone.  I know I can succeed as I have a team around me” Deb adds.

Deb has great plans for the future in taking her store to reach its full potential and hopes to own a 2nd store within the next 2 years. Deb said, “My hopes for the future are to continue developing my staff to be the very best and to be chosen as one of the best stores and for the team recognised as part of Hairhouse Warehouse best of the best stylists across Australia.

Finally, for anyone thinking about owning their own Hairhouse Warehouse franchise, Deb said, “Do your research, work in a store, love what you do and GO FOR IT!”

If you wish to share this vision and passion, then Hairhouse Warehouse may help you achieve the goal of owning your own business.
