Australian mobile coffee giant Cafe2U has beaten some of the luminaries of the international coffee community to medal at The Australian International Coffee Awards (AICA).
Cafe2U took a Bronze Medal in the prestigious Espresso, blend (CoffeeEspresso) category – a category open to all sections of the coffee industry including celebrated specialist roasters and retail site household names.
The stunning achievement underlines Cafe2U’s leading hand in evolving mobile coffee vendor production values, after being rated as one of the world’s best espresso coffee blends by a panel of the world’s best baristas.
The Awards are the first international coffee roasting awards for the Asia Pacific region. Judged by a panel of 28 experts, in its first year in 2013 it attracted entries from 132 roasters from Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Mexico. There were 817 entries in this year’s competition, up from 603 last year.
“To beat the calibre of entries that we did is an amazing achievement and underlines what we have been doing for the past 10 years – continually developing and improving our offering,” said Cafe2U Managing Director Derek Black.
“As a mobile coffee franchise, we have been driven to change perception of what mobile coffee is – we produce our own signature blend and apart from the skill of our baristas, the quality of our actual product is the equal of anything out there in any high end café. This award validates that claim entirely.”
The judges overall comments were that the Cafe2U Espresso Blend was a “Very good balance of acidity and mild sweetness, chocolaty, spicy with earthy notes and tactile balance is creamy and full, aftertaste is lingering with earthy undertones. Nice balance with a pleasant aftertaste, tactile balance is very good.”
