Cinnabon Australia wins QSR Media’s Special Recognition Award

Cinnabon Australia has taken home the coveted Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievement at QSR Media’s annual Sandhurst Awards, which were held as a virtual event for the first time this year.

In a highly competitive market, the US-born brand made a strong arrival on Australian turf this past December, and quickly surpassed milestones most brands can only hope for in their first year of business.

One such milestone was recording the highest opening day sales record in the history of the franchise, not insignificant with more than 1500 Cinnabon bakeries in almost 50 countries. They achieved this at the Westfield Garden City Opening on Valentine’s Day this year, with over 6500 Cinnabon Rolls sold.

Since December, Cinnabon Australia staff have rolled, baked and sold more than half a million bons in different sizes and flavours.

While Covid-19 has stymied many QSR brands around the world, Cinnabon Australia was able to pivot in a big way by introducing a delivery offering, hosting pop-ups at shopping centre locations throughout South East Queensland, and implementing new digital campaigns to drive both delivery and foot traffic.

With its warm, comforting aroma, and irresistible gooey-centre, Cinnabon became a favourite isolation treat, and April 2020 was the brand’s best month to date, despite the permanent bakeries at Toombul and Garden City being subject to low traffic within their shopping centre locations.

Given the potentially devastating consequences of the previous few months, Cinnabon Australia franchisor, Gaurav Bansal, is particularly delighted to have been recognised by QSR.

“Despite many challenges, the Cinnabon brand is off to an incredible start in Australia, and we’re honoured to be recognised with this coveted award.

“Thank you so much to the Cinnabon fans that have continued to support us through the pandemic and allowed us to keep all of our staff employed. Their devotion is the backbone of this brand and we are beyond grateful to them. And thank you also to our very hardworking team.”

Cinnabon currently operates in Queensland with two permanent bakeries (Toombul Shopping Centre and Westfield Garden City), delivers to over 900 suburbs in South East Queensland, and will also continue to host pop-up stores throughout the state to meet popular demand.

Cinnabon Australia will continue to grow the brand, with bakery locations planned for NSW and Victoria later in 2020 and 2021.
