Over the weekend, Fastway Couriers Perth joined more than a thousand riders at the annual MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer, a two-day cycling fundraiser event to support the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, Western Australia’s premier adult medical research institute.
Six riders sporting Fastway Couriers’ jerseys, took up the challenge to ride over 200 kilometres through Western Australia’s scenic countryside. Kathy Smith, Regional Franchisee at Fastway Couriers Perth, acted as a fundraising coordinator, raising over $11,000 for the medical research institute. In addition, the Perth depot also provided a support vehicle for the event.
Kathy said, “Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. The MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer is a terrific cause that challenges each rider while raising much-needed awareness and funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. It was an honour to be a part of this wonderful event and to support such a worthy cause.”
The MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer is the largest cycling fundraiser in Western Australia with more than $15 million raised for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research since 2012.
Richard Thame, CEO at Fastway Couriers, says their franchisees and employees are always encouraged to get involved with local community events in any way they can.
“Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Australia1 and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is working tirelessly to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease. We’re delighted to have been able to support the Harry Perkins Institute through the MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer at this years’ event,” says Richard.
