Franchising Expo highlights all the benefits of being your own boss
With high profile franchisors being in the news for all the wrong reasons, it’s easy to forget that franchising is a diverse industry comprising thousands of successful small business concepts.
A snapshot of these will be showcased at the Sydney Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo over the weekend 17-18 March at ICC Sydney, covering a wide range of industries with investment levels from under $10,000 to more than $500,000.
“Whether you are looking to get into your own business or sell a franchise opportunity, there has never been a more important time to attend the Franchising Expo,” says Exhibition Director Tim Collett.
“While it is disheartening to see reports of a small number of failed systems and individual stores, this does not change the fact that franchising is a popular and proven business model, which has helped thousands to get into their own business, provided the community with great service and employed hundreds of thousands of Australians,” he adds.
According to the Franchise Council of Australia there are 79,000 franchise outlets nationwide, employing 460,000 people. “There are 1,600 franchisors in this country, and the vast majority of them have satisfied franchisees with profitable outlets,” says Collett.
“Australia’s Franchising Code of Conduct is one of the most stringent in the world and franchisees can feel confident that the industry has a strong and promising future.”
Established over 30 years ago, The Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo offers visitors a forum to compare and research franchise brands and ask the experts about financial, legal and compliance issues. There are also seminars running all day throughout the show, including keynotes by Jim Penman, the man behind Jim’s Group, and John O’Brien, founder and CEO of Poolwerx, which has now expanded beyond Australia to the USA.
Collett says anyone going into business for themselves needs to do their research.
“The Franchising Expo brings everyone together under one roof. You can compare the options, eyeball the people behind the brands and ask the hard questions. It is all about doing your research and finding the right match for you.”
