Guzman y Gomez, Australia’s fastest growing fast food company, has opened doors to its first Australian flagship taqueria in Australia Square.
The newly designed taqueria brings together elements that the Guzman y Gomez guests know and love with distinctive additions to the menu and a design that make GYG Australia Square a totally fresh dining experience. Spanning across 120 square meters and seating up to 80 people, diners at Australia Square will be immersed in a modern space that reflects the evolution of fast food design.
Food is the champion of the Australia Square taqueria. Open from breakfast through to dinner, the taqueria menu will stick to GYG’s street food inspired roots, but also offer special menu items exclusive to Australia Square. Diners can expect to find a breakfast menu with pastries by Sonoma Bakery, barista made coffee, plates and cutlery, fresh margaritas made with premium Herradura tequila, and wine supplied by Vasse Felix, Margaret River.
The opening of the new taqueria coincides with Guzman y Gomez’s 10th birthday as the business celebrates a decade since opening its first taqueria in Sydney’s Newtown in 2006.
“Guzman y Gomez is growing fast and we’re in a position to explore big ideas for the brand. One of the things that sets GYG apart is that we’ve never been limited to a single, carbon copy format, but create taquerias with a sense of individuality. Australia Square has been a chance for us to continue experimenting with fitouts and styles as we move into 2017.
“We are proud to be fast food and have no intention of stopping our expansion of food courts, strips and drive-thru taquerias, but this flagship taqueria will create a whole new way for guests to enjoy Guzman y Gomez and we couldn’t be more excited to bring it to them,” said Steven Marks, co-founder and Managing Director of Guzman y Gomez.
Kelvin Ho, of renowned interior design and architect firm, Akin Creative was commissioned to design the flagship taqueria. Best known for stunning minimalist retail spaces, Akin was chosen for its expertise in designing relaxed environments with an understated sense of refinement.
The design was led by the principle ‘let food be the champion’. Every element of the taqueria has been created to showcase Guzman y Gomez’s quality, delicious, made to order cuisine. An open, transparent kitchen space will allow guests to see the fresh produce and care and expertise that goes into every Guzman y Gomez meal.
“Retail architecture is all about using materials and space to create an experience for people.
When they walk in and sit down, they should immediately get a sense of what that brand stands for and what their story is,” said Kelvin Ho.
“It’s important to tell the Guzman y Gomez story through this one of a kind flagship taqueria. We’ve retained all the atmosphere and colour of a classic taqueria but polished up the edges — I know people are going to love it.”
