Residents of Burleigh, consider yourselves blessed by the burrito Gods. Australia’s favourite Mexican, Guzman y Gomez, is about to open its 100th store in your fine coastal town on Thursday November 30, and it’s a drive-thru!
To celebrate, the team will be serving up FREE burritos from 11 am to 8 pm. It doesn’t stop there, considering this is such a huge milestone, GYG’s famous free burrito day will be bigger and better than ever. Trust me, GYG knows how to put on a fiesta — think Mexican Mariachi bands, face painting, merchandise, prizes and a few other surprises!
The new store is located at Stockland in Burleigh and will be an epic dual-lane drive-thru, the third of its kind for GYG here in Australia.
Guests will be treated to GYG’s mouth-watering menu including the recently introduced Minis range (mini versions of all your favourites) and chipotle-seasoned fries, served just how you like — whether it’s in a burrito or topped with the deliciousness you’d expect on nachos.
Now that GYG has 100 stores, chefs will be rolling hundreds of customised burritos every hour, but can Burleigh beat the previous GYG Free Burrito Day record set by Adelaide of 910 burritos in the first hour? That’s one burrito made and delivered to hungry customers every 4 seconds! C’mon Gold Coast, you can do it!
GYG Founder and Global CEO, Steven Marks, said:
“Wow — a hundred Guzman y Gomez restaurants, we could never have imagined GYG would be this huge and we are so grateful to our incredible guests and crew for their loyalty.
“Hundreds of thousands of burritos, the creativity and energy of our team, and a whole lot of love has taken GYG from one store in Newtown (where some of our first customers thought black beans were olives!) to what it is today.
“This is an incredible milestone and we couldn’t have done it without our guests who support us each and every day.
“I am so proud of what we’ve achieved and there’s so much more to come as we continue to reinvent fast food for the 21st century. This is one of many developments we have in the pipeline with 24 more drive-thrus launching in the next 18 months so, stay tuned!”
It has been a massive year for Guzman y Gomez. The team has rolled out an epic network of drive-thrus, touched the sky with a collaboration with Project X in trialling drone burrito delivery in Canberra, launched the game-changing version of their app and pushed ahead as one of the first Apple Pay merchants in Australia and more.
