TWO great Queenslanders – rugby league legend, Mal Meninga and iconic Queensland brand, NightOwl Convenience – have united in a partnership that will see NightOwl become exclusive stockists of the Mal Meninga Fresh brand.
Recognising NightOwl as a leader in the industry, Mr Meninga looks forward to contributing to the brand’s range through Mal Meninga Fresh, soon to be rolled out to most Queensland stores.
The successful coach and decorated former rugby league player, is set to become a familiar face around NightOwl’s 66-store network, playing a significant role in the brand’s full promotional calendar for 2013/2014.
Along with launching Mal Meninga Fresh in stores, Mr Meninga is also looking forward to connecting with NightOwl communities to encourage healthy eating and a good life balance, even among those who are time-poor.
Mr Meninga has a close connection to NightOwl and remembers frequenting the network’s first store in Auchenflower as a child.
“I remember shopping at the first store in Brisbane in the 1970s and in my adult years I have shopped at other NightOwl stores for convenience,” Mr Meninga said.
“I’m excited to be a part of the brand that offers ‘more choice, more value’ through its range, including Mal Meninga Fresh.
“I look forward to sharing my experience with NightOwl’s franchisees. To run a successful business or coach a successful team, I need to set an example. As coach, I can’t expect my team to do the things I need them, unless I’m doing them myself.”
NightOwl Franchisor Adam Adams said Mr Meninga was the perfect choice to partner NightOwl.
“Mal is a Queensland and Australian sporting icon, and he also has extensive experience in the fruit and vegetable industry,” he said.
“NightOwl is a standout brand in the convenience and retail industry. Mal recognises NightOwl is a lot more than just a corner store and we’re very excited to welcome him to our team.
“It’s a great opportunity to drive NightOwl’s fresh food offering, while encouraging families to
improve their lifestyles, starting with healthy eating.”
Through Mal Meninga Fresh, Mr Meninga, who has ten years’ experience in the fruit and vegetable industry, looks forward to targeting schools, families and businesses to encourage healthy eating and to remind the public that healthy eating can be convenient and affordable.
“The reason I’ve been able to get to where I am is through remaining healthy. When Adam asked me to be part of this venture I was very thankful to be involved,” Mr Meninga said.
The Mal Meninga Fresh brand will include fresh fruit, vegetables and meat to alter the perception that healthy food cannot be grabbed in a hurry.
