The most scratchie-est time of the year: How The Lott prepares its franchisees for the year’s busiest gifting season
Aussies are expected to scratch more than 11.4 million Instant Scratch-Its Christmas tickets this festive season making The Lott retailers busier than the elves in Santa’s workshop.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily impacted many industries, the vast majority of The Lott’s retailers have been able to continue trading and have preparations well in hand to make the most of the upcoming season.
Knowing this time of year is one of the busiest for its franchisees, The Lott provides its retailers with an arsenal of festive products, promotional communications templates, gifting inspiration and advice, and most importantly ongoing support throughout the busy period.
From as early as February, the Instant Scratch-Its team at The Lott begins to develop exciting and fun Christmas Instant Scratch-Its games for the festive period. Every year, these popular tickets sell-out of retailers before the big day and this year is expected to be no exception.
The 2020 Christmas Instant Scratch-Its ticket range is now on sale in nearly 4,000 The Lott outlets, providing the perfect add-on gift to our franchisees’ other products, or an excellent cross-sell opportunity.
With up to half of the Australian adult population expected to scratch one of these tickets this Christmas, these fun games give retailers an easy opportunity to increase their basket size.
The Lott General Manager Lotteries Retail Antony Moore said his goal was to provide additional support to franchisees this year so they could continue to deliver excellent products and services to their customers.
“With everything that’s been happening this year, we’re expecting Australians to embrace Christmas in a big way. But we also know that Christmas gift shopping is a stressful time for customers, which is why we want to make their experience as easy as possible,” he said.
“That’s why we work closely with our franchisees in the lead up to, and throughout the merry season, so they are prepared and ready for the extra foot-traffic coming their way.”
This year’s Instant Scratch-Its range includes an Australian-first clear ticket, as well as tickets that are perfect as a gift-tag or table decoration. To complement this exciting range, The Lott provides its retailers with inspiration on how to display and sell the product, with speciality gifting accessories that are easily ordered through the lotteries terminal.
From tinsel and cardboard mini Christmas trees to themed envelopes, festive gift wallets and Santa stockings, these specially designed gifting accessories are created with Instant Scratch-Its gifting in mind. It’s expected that up to 650,000 pieces of gifting accessories will be ordered, created, wrapped, and ribboned by The Lott’s franchisees ready to be sold and enjoyed by their customers this November and December.
Franchisees are given step-by-step instructions on how to assemble and sell these tickets and accessories by a dedicated team of support staff. They are also encouraged to share designs and inspirations of their own across the network to support and encourage other The Lott franchisees throughout this period.
As well as the dedicated, ongoing support from The Lott retail team, the franchisees have access to a dedicated ‘Santa’s Workshop’ portal on The Lott’s intranet. ‘Santa’s Workshop’ includes dedicated resources to help during the busiest gifting season of the year, including ‘How to’ instructions on gifting, ideas for inspiration, and education about the products.
Franchisees can also access in-person support with their dedicated Business Development Manager on hand to discuss products, cross-selling and other retail matters during this time.
“We want to encourage customers into our stores by providing fun, festive product offerings, not only as a complete gift through our range of promotional accessories but also as an add-on gift to slip into a Christmas card,” Mr Moore said.
“Ensuring our franchisees are equipped, educated and enthusiastic about our products means they can easily provide their customers with an excellent experience.”
