Queensland’s best announced at NAB FCA Excellence in Franchising Awards

The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) honoured franchising’s best in Queensland on Friday night at the NAB FCA Qld/NT Excellence in Franchising Awards for 2013.

Winners at the event included April Carnie and Nicki Nesbitt from Shingle Inn who took home the Franchisee of the Year, two or more staff award, Tim MacKinley from Appliance Tagging Services who was awarded Franchisee of the Year, less than two staff and Craig Russell from Clark Rubber who was announced Field Manager of the Year.

Other winners included Caroline and Paul Attard from PoolWerx who were awarded the Multi-unit Franchisee of the Year accolade, Franchise Woman of the Year, Sarah Cobb of Cariblue and Elton Berrange who took out the award for Franchisee Community Service for Grill’d.

April and Nicki of Shingle Inn said their award would benefit everyone from head office, right through to their customers.

“We’ve already texted some of our customers, just to tell them the results.

“It all comes down to the hard work we’ve put in. It’s just so lovely to be recognised. It’s not just us, but our staff too. We’re just so proud to be a part of it,” the pair said.

Elton Berrange recognised his franchisor for encouraging strong community involvement right across the system.

“Grill’d has the Local Matters program, which is fantastic program that ensures we get involved in our local community. We’ve made some fantastic community contacts out of that program. Burgers for Better (which is what the award was for) is just one of those contacts we’ve made. It’s a genuinely quality program that keeps us involved with our local community,” Elton said.

Franchise Woman of the Year, Sarah Cobb said it was incredibly important to commit to being an active part of the industry you work in.

“I think in the franchise community, it’s always great when we come together. This community is exceptionally good at sharing knowledge. Networking is critical to keep you connected. It’s as much about what you give out as what you get back,” she said.

Following their success, all winners have all qualified as finalists for the NAB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards. The Gala Dinner will be held at Jupiters Hotel and Casino on Tuesday 22 October at the culmination of the National Franchise Convention.
