Australia’s junior surfing community will again be supported by Subway Australia, with confirmation the brand will continue its successful partnership with Surfing Australia and the World Surf League (WSL) for a third year, through the Subway® Surf Series.
Since announcing their support of the event two years ago, the partnership with Subway has seen the grassroots competition grow significantly from three events to a seven-event Pro Junior competition, providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title at the WSL Junior Championships in 2018.
Surfing Australia General Manager of Sponsorship and Events Jake White said the Subway Surf Series provides a vital stepping stone for the country’s junior surfers to move through to the WSL World Tour.
“Without the Subway® Surf Series there would be a significant gap in our sports development pathway and in Australia’s junior surfing community,” said Mr. White.
“The series represents an important link in the ‘pathway to the podium’ developed by Surfing Australia, allowing young surfers to progress their junior careers,” he said.
Subway® Australia Marketing Manager Kate Brody said the brand’s partnership with Surfing Australia’s national grassroots surfing competition is an extension of Subway’s commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle.
“Subway® Australia is committed to working with the young Australian community to promote healthy eating with the Subway® Surf Series being a perfect opportunity to showcase young surfers and their family and friends getting outdoors and being active,” said Ms. Brody.
Australian surfing legends Joel Parkinson and Laura Enever are confirmed as ambassadors for the series in 2017.
“Laura and Joel live the Eat Well, Go Surf ethos that Subway embodies, so to have them a part of this competition as inspiration for the Pro Junior kids was a natural fit,” Ms. Brody said.
