The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) honoured franchising’s best from across Victoria and Tasmania on Friday night at the NAB FCA VIC/TAS Excellence in Franchising Awards for 2013.
Winners at the event, proudly sponsored by NAB, included Angela Williams from Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs, who was recognised as Franchisee of the Year, two or more staff, Ty Menzies from EFM Health Clubs who was awarded Franchisee of the Year, less than two staff and Matt and Brad Walker from Grill’d, who took home the Multi-Unit accolade for the third year in a row.
Sarah Allen from Appliance Tagging Services was named Franchise Woman of the Year and Barry and Deb Ranson of Clark Rubber were recognised with the Franchisee Community Service Award. Ty, who first invested in his franchise at just 21 years of age, said the awards process helped him look at all facets of his business, including his work life balance.
“Understanding exactly where the business was financially, and being able to portray that to someone else was incredibly valuable,” he said.
The Walkers, who were the first Grill’d franchisees said along with their brand passion, is the passion they have for their team. “We have two really clear objectives, financial growth for our family and the development of people. Everything we do in our business is a reflection of us through them. They’re the ones that deliver,” they said.
Sarah, co founder and General Manager of Appliance Tagging Services, said the awards were important at a sector and broader business level. “They (the awards) highlight to the broader community that franchising is a great sector, there is third party review that goes on, and these systems are found to be reputable and worthy of recognition,” she said.
All winners from the event now qualify as finalists for the NAB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards. The Gala Dinner will be held at Jupiters Hotel and Casino on Tuesday 22 October at the culmination of the National Franchise Convention.
