Today, Australia’s largest Mexican franchise chain, Zambrero, announces it has introduced its fresh and healthy take on Mexican cuisine in the United States. With over 160 restaurants in Australia and existing international presence in New Zealand and Ireland, the expansion represents consistent growth in consumer popularity and strong point of difference in the fast food industry, through its humanitarian mission to combat world hunger.
The New England region has been chosen for the introduction, officially opening the doors to two sites on the 20th March before commencing its expansion across the country. A 93sqm restaurant in Harvard Square, Cambridge (Massachusetts) and a 144sqm restaurant with drive-through in Warwick (Rhode Island) were strategically chosen to trial the offering amongst a large demographic of customers. Bianca Azzopardi, General Manager for Zambrero, comments on the market:
“There’s incredible love of Mexican cuisine in America and such diversity in options available. As consumer affinity for healthy fast food continues to grow we saw it as a decisive time to launch and offer a new take. We have a strong product that delivers on healthy choices and great quality ingredients such as black rice infused with spirulina and amaranth seeds and our meats are slow-cooked for up to 18 hours using the sous-vide method.”
Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate initiative will remain at the heart of the brand’s identity in America. For every burrito or bowl purchased every day of the year, a meal is donated to someone in need via Zambrero’s distribution partner, American aid organisation; Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now.)
815 million people accounting for 11% of the world’s population suffer from hunger according to a recent report published by the United Nations, World Food Programme, World Health Organization, and the UN Children’s Fundi.
Since its founding in 2005 by entrepreneur Dr. Sam Prince, Zambrero, thanks to its customers, has donated more than 21 million meals around the world to those in need. Dr. Prince comments on the necessity to launch in America;
“Plate 4 Plate is Zambrero’s reason for being. Working alongside aid organisations such as Rise Against Hunger, we wholeheartedly believe we can end world hunger in our lifetime. More than ever we need to act and at Zambrero we have an ambitious goal to donate a billion meals by 2025. Expanding into larger markets such as America increases our chances of making this a reality.”
BRW Magazine has recognised Zambrero as one of Australia’s fastest growing businesses for five consecutive years (2015 and 2014 BRW Fast 100 list and 2013, 2012, 2011 BRW Fast Franchises lists).
Zambrero Harvard Square and Zambrero Warwick both officially open in the US on the 20th March 2018.
